LIHU‘E — Two Kaua‘i Mustang teams and two Bronco teams will be in the semifinals of the 2009 Da Bash that wraps up starting at 8 a.m., today.
The Lihu‘e Baseball League Mustang Mets, ranked No. 2 following bracket play, came up with five runs in the fifth inning, Sunday, to pull ahead of the top seeded LBL Mustang Rangers, 10-8, to advance to the semifinals where they will meet the Windward Giants that blanked Upcountry Maui, 27-0. The Giants coaching staff watched the Rangers/Mets matchup following their win.
On the other side of the Mustang Division semifinals, the LBL Mustang Yankees, top-rated in their bracket, settled a see-saw battle for the lead by taking an 11-9 edge over the visiting Kapolei Shockers to set the stage for its match against the second-seeded Mililani Poi Pounders that upset the White Sox, 15-0, in the first playoff round, Sunday.
Both Mustang division semifinals will start at 9 a.m. at the Lihu‘e County Park.
The Braves, an 11-1 winner over the MKYBL Menehune will meet ‘Ohana Baseball, a 17-4 winner over the Cardinals for the Consolation title in the Mustang Division. That game will start at 11 a.m.
Top seeded LBL Bronco Orioles under the coaching of Milton Koga, edged out the Kahala Warriors 4-3, Sunday, to advance to the semifinals of the Bronco division where it will meet the Mililani Warriors that upset top seeded O‘ahu Dirt Bags, 2-1, in the opening playoff round.
That contest will start at 8 a.m. at the Bronco diamond at the Lihu‘e County Park.
The LBL Bronco Braves under coach Destry Carvalho will face Windward in a semifinal game starting at 10:15 a.m.
The Braves earned its semifinal slot with a 10-0 shutout over Waianae while the second-seeded Windward edged Hawai‘i Nakoa 6-5 to advance to the semifinals.
Championship game for the Mustang division is scheduled to start at noon with the title game for the Bronco division scheduled to start at 12:45 p.m. Both games will be played at the Lihu‘e County Park fields.
