LIHU‘E — The public is invited to view the competition when 12 Mustang division teams and 12 Bronco division teams open the Lihu‘e Baseball League’s annual Da Bash tournament Saturday morning.
LBL teams involved in the Mustang division include the Mets, Braves, Rangers, White Sox and Yankees. These teams will be spread out over four brackets and will be playing the Windward Giants, MKYBL Menehune, Upcountry Maui, Kapolei Shockers, WaiKahala Cardinals, Ohana Baseball and the Mililani Poi Pounders.
Bronco teams from the host LBL include the Orioles, Phillies and Braves and will be pitted against the Mililani Warriors, WaiKahala Red Sox, O‘ahu Dirt Bags, Kahala Warriors, WaiKahala Cardinals, Windward, Hilo BOC, Waianae Sea Riders and Hawai‘i Nakoa.
The tournament schedule has games starting Saturday with bracket play overlapping into Sunday when the division playoffs start. Games on Saturday start at 7:30 a.m. and on Sunday, the first game goes off at 7:45 a.m.
The championship games are scheduled to start Monday at noon for the Mustang division
and 12:45 p.m. for the Bronco division.
Games will be played at the Lihu‘e County Park as well as some of the bracket games being played at Isenberg Field.
There is no charge for the public to attend and view the competition between the Kaua‘i teams and visiting Outer Island teams.
“By bringing a statewide tournament here to Kaua‘i, it gives all of LBL’s participating members an opportunity to play in a tournament style event,” said Kyle Oshima, president of the LBL, in an e-mail. “This will be a fun weekend filled with baseball games and other events at the Lihu‘e fields.”
Oshima said one of the highlights of Da Bash is Sunday night when LBL will host a lu‘au for all participating teams followed by a big screen movie after dinner.
Cory Gokan is Da Bash tournament director.
