Chamber of Commerce: Back to Business Basics Series

7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at JJ’s Broiler

The session is all about “What You Need to Know about Health Insurance” and the “New Law” and will include representatives from two of Hawai‘i’s medical insurance providers including: Antonio J. Saguibo, Jr., Vice President, Account Management & Sales, Hawaii Medical Service Association; and Stewart Sato, Account Executive, University Health Alliance. They will each provide information about what insurance programs are available especially since a law was enacted in September 2008 that requires providers to make available insurance plans with 50 or less employees. Of specific interest to small business and, especially to sole proprietors is that business owners are able to access insurance that prior to the legislation was not accessible nor feasible to them.

• There is a nominal fee of $10 for members and $17 non-members/walk-ins for each session in order for attendees to have the flexibility of selecting topics pertinent to their needs.

Wailua-Kapa‘a Neighborhood Association Meeting

2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday at the Kapa‘a Library Meeting Room

John Harder, the “Dump Doctor,” will discuss “Zero Waste Kaua‘i: A Sustainable Approach” that addresses solutions for the county’s trash concerns. Harder believes that the 3Rs strategy of Reduction, Reuse and Recycling offer this island the best approach for managing solid waste disposal.

A portion of the meeting will include updates on local issues and time to hear new concerns.
