The Menehune, capturing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title in its final game at Kaua‘i High School, is one of a dozen teams in the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II tournament field.
Hawai‘i Baptist drew the top seed in Division II followed by Hilo getting the No. 2 seed. Seabury Hall and Moanalua round out the top four positions at third and fourth seed, respectively.
Other teams in the Division II field include Kohala, Kaimuki, Kapolei, Pahoa, Waipahu and Le Jardin.
If Waimea is successful against the Honoka‘a Dragons, it advances to meet No. 4 Moanalua on Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
Punahou, successful in Girls Water Polo, girls golf, boys judo and girls judo in last week’s round of HHSAA state championships, draws the top seed for the boys volleyball, Division I.
The Buffnblu is joined by No. 2 seed Roosevelt, No. 3 seed Waiakea of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, and No. 4 Kamehameha-Maui of the Maui Interscholastic League, enjoying a bye on the Wednesday opening round.
Other teams participating in the Division I state tournament include Leilehua, Castle, Mililani, Kamehameha-Big Island, Iolani, Pearl City, Kamehameha-Kapalama and Baldwin.
State championships for both Division I and II will be Saturday.
