Welcome to Kaua‘i, Takashi and Nobuko Tanaka! The couple from Japan are here trying to get photos of apapane (they said Jim Denny is famous in Japan!), but took time out of chasing birds (they’ve seen a lot of mejiro)
Welcome to Kaua‘i, Takashi and Nobuko Tanaka! The couple from Japan are here trying to get photos of apapane (they said Jim Denny is famous in Japan!), but took time out of chasing birds (they’ve seen a lot of mejiro) to take in the Kaua‘i Museum’s 29th annual May Day Lei Contest and Celebration after Takashi read about it during his lunch break in Japan.
Congratulations to Robbie Kaholokula on a great event! Barbara Prigge was checking out the activity at the West Kaua‘i United Methodist Church malasada booth, and said she has a malasada recipe, too…just no time to make them.
She and Pomai Kane (don’t forget the Business Canoe Race coming up later this month) were doing the Kaiola Canoe Club lunch booth, and Keith Kitamura of the Kapa‘a High School Peer Mediation ‘Ohana were also doing a plate lunch.
Earlier in the day, Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. joined Lenny Rapozo in dedicating the new basketball floor at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Coach Guy Higa said he gets to try it out Sunday with the men’s league, and Karen Matsumoto said Dennis Onishi of the Piopio Bears won’t be bringing along his Bears when he comes to visit for a meeting for council people hosted by the Kaua‘i County Council. Dennis “Fresh” Onishi is a councilman from the Big Island as well as coach for the Bears.
