The 6th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament sponsored by the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce will take place on May 17 at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to provide scholarships to three outstanding high school students who plan to pursue a business major in college and also to an exemplary Kaua‘i Community College business education graduate.
“We are very pleased and thanks to last year’s 2008 Platinum Sponsor, Falko Partners and the nearly 125 golfers, donors and members who believed in the importance of investing in our future business and community leaders, that the Chamber was once again able to award scholarships to the following students: Andrew Yamamoto (Kapa‘a High School), Bingxi Sun (Waimea High School), Lauren Riley (Kaua‘i High) and Donna Mei Theresa Feller of Kaua‘i Community College. Thanks to former President Mamo Cummings-Graham who founded this important tournament in 2004, the Chamber has successfully raised funds and invested nearly $19,000 in our youth, some who have already returned after their graduation to build their careers in business.”
This year’s tournament format will be Individual Low Net including Men and Women Flights and a Corporate Challenge Competition with 4 Person Teams (Aggregate Net Scores). The 2008 Corporate Challenge Winner was Tire Warehouse Kauai sponsored by Sharron Weber. Weber was Kauai’s 2008 Small Business Person of the Year and who exemplifies the spirit of the Chamber in her commitment and participation in golf tournaments and other community events throughout the year. This year’s 2009 tournament, the Chamber anticipates another Corporate Challenge from Tire Warehouse Kauai with other teams who annually participate in this tournament that will be held at the world-renowned Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course where the PGA Tournament has been held prior to 2008. The cost is $125 per player, or $475 for the Corporate Challenge Team – Any Foursome. A awards luncheon will follow after the tournament where cash prizes will be awarded for the Closest to the Hole competition and a random drawing for a trip for two to Las Vegas.
The winning recipients of the scholarships will be honored and recognized at the golf tournament awards luncheon and at the 2nd Quarter Membership Meeting on June 18, sponsored by Central Pacific Bank. The Chamber is accepting hole sponsors, donations, and golfers for the tournament. Hole sponsorship/donation and golfer registration forms are available at the Chamber Office or by calling 245-7363 and or visiting the website at www.kauaichamber.org
