KAPA‘A— Waimea pitcher Chris Kaiakapu threw a two-hitter and Kapa‘a made five costly errors in Waimea’s 13-2 win at the Ron Martin Field, Wednesday afternoon.
Six of the Waimea’s 13 runs came off costly triples that coupled with Kapa‘a miscue resulting in multi-run in-the-park homers.
Waimea catcher Dylan Ishihara closed off a four-run fifth with three runs scoring on his base-rounder with two outs. Similarly, Robert Perreira ended on a round trip with three runs crossing in the sixth inning with two outs to ice the win that came on the 10-run ruling. Both plays came on RBI triples coupled with an error.
Perreira’s round trip sent Kapa‘a coach to the mound, exchanging Kysen Lopez with Mick Voight at thirdbase.
Chasing a 4-0 deficit after three innings, Kapa‘a got on the board with a B.J. Aiwohi RBI triple to cross Brehdan Kamibayashi who got first on a walk, one of two given up by Kaiakapu.
That sent Waimea coach Michael Rita to settle Kaiakapu on the mound, but the meat of the Kapa‘a hitters came up and Warrior firstbase Tanner Shigeta, belting the go-ahead winning homerun against Kaua‘i last Saturday, sacrificed to center to drive Aiwohi home for a 4-2 deficit.
Waimea answered in the fifth with four runs on a hit and two Kapa‘a errors and built on the 8-2 lead with five runs on four hits and another pair of Warrior miscues in the sixth inning for the win.
Kaiakapu finished with two runs allowed on just two Kapa‘a hits while striking out seven batters, walking two and one Kapa‘a batter getting hit.
Kapa‘a finished on the mound with eight earned runs on a dozen Waimea hits led by firstbase Michael Acoba who went 3-3, scoring twice and notching two RBI. Paul Correa also scored twice along with Perreira who finished 2-3.
With the win, Waimea hosts Kaua‘i at Hanapepe Stadium, Saturday in a double-header starting at 10 a.m.
