The public is invited to the second annual Virtual Enterprise Open House at the Hilton Kaua‘i Beach Resort today, starting at 6:30 p.m.
This year’s senior class at Kapa‘a High School has developed a business called Kaua‘i’s Finest, states a release from Kapa‘a High School. The company plans to provide fun activities for visitors where they are not only enchanted by Kaua‘i’s beauty, but will also learn about the Hawaiian culture as well as the history of Kaua‘i.
The Virtual Enterprise program started following World War II in European schools and was brought to the United States in the 1990s. Today, there are close to 200 schools participating in the California system.
Kapa‘a High School is the first school in Hawai‘i to be part of this remarkable program.
“We are truly learning so much in this class and only hope that more schools in Hawai‘i will take part in this chance to learn in an excitingly different way,” said China Price, a public relations administrator of Kaua‘i’s Finest. “Here our peers are much more than just our classmates — they are part of our business and we rely on each other to make this business as much as it can possibly be.”
Collen McCracken, a student’s parent, said the popularity of last year’s event prompted organizers to look for a bigger place.
Christine Farina, a Kapa‘a High School teacher and the California Virtual Enterprise coordinator, said the school and class would like to express its gratitude to the Annie Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation for awarding the grant that allows the class to accomplish a lot of what the class works towards as a company.
“We would like to send a huge mahalo to the Hilton Kaua‘i Beach Resort and its staff,” Farina said.
“Their support is just what we needed. Now, we not only have a beautiful setting for our Grand Opening, we can also develop a mentorship program between each department in our business and the corresponding department at the Hilton. It is truly an exciting match.”
