Philip Palama Jr.
Philip Kauaiiki Palama Jr. of Kalaheo died March 8, 2009, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born April 17, 1929, in Kukuiolono Park, Kalaheo, he was a college administrator.
He was preceded in death by parents Philip and Hisako Palama Sr., and son Philip K. Palama III.
He is survived by wife Patricia M. Palama; children Steven (Darlene) Palama of Waimea, Pennie Palama of Nevada, Kathy Palama of Hanapepe, Carrie Palama of Kalaheo; sisters Iris Hornstine of Kalaheo and Kuulei Ihara of O‘ahu; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at Kukuiolono Park Clubhouse.
Casual and aloha attire is suggested.
Flower leis are requested in lieu of floral bouquets

Maria Antonio Salud of Hanama‘ulu died March 8, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born Oct. 18, 1929, in the Philippines, she was a school teacher in the Philippines and housekeeper at Sheraton Coconut Beach Hotel in Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by husband Pedro O. Salud.
She is survived by sons Ben (Imelda) Salud and Rudy (Shandra) Salud; granddaughters Chelsea, Gabrielle-Alyssa and Keilee Salud; grandsons Christopher, Cheydon “CJ,” and Kalani; great-grandson Caleb Cummings; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Visitation from 5-7 p.m. during a wake service on Tuesday, March 17, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; Rosary at 7 p.m.
Visitation noon-1 p.m. during funeral service on Wednesday, March 18, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Lihu‘e; service at 1 p.m.
Burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Esperanza Oana
Esperanza Langtad Oana of Hanama‘ulu died March 7, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 76. Born Dec. 23, 1932, in Hanalei, she retired as an office manager with County of Kauai Public Works.
She is survived by husband Stanley Oana Jr.; sons Jedrino (Davelyn) Balauro of Los Angeles, Alfred (Janice) Balauro of ‘Ele‘ele; daughter Denise Young of the Big Island; stepsons Shane (Terumi) Oana of O‘ahu, Sterling (Tammy) Oana of Las Vegas, Styles (Rose) Oana of O‘ahu; stepdaughters Stanette (Aaron) Takeuchi of Las Vegas, Sheldeen (Robert) Ronia of the Big Island; brothers George (Kathleen) Langtad of Hanama‘ulu, Lorraine Paler of the Big Island; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will begin with visitation at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at The Lihue First Church; services at 10:30 a.m.

Moses Keale
Rev. Moses “Moke” Keale Jr. of Anahola died March 8, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 69. Born Feb. 2, 1940, in Ni‘ihau, he retired as a heavy equipment operator for Gay & Robinson Incorporated.
He was preceded in death by son William Keale; brother Moses Keale Sr.; and sisters Adeline Rivera, Rose Kaliloa and Rebecca Keale.
He is survived by wife Elaine (Petersen) Keale of Anahola; hanai son William Kamala of Anahola; hanai daughters Rhonda (Jeff) Garcia of Lihu‘e and Anaconi Kamala of Kapa‘a; brother Arthur (Dorothy) Keale of Waimea, Joseph (Viola) Kahale of O‘ahu and Arthur (Cissy) Kahale of Koloa; sister Josephine Keale of Waimea; sisters-in-law Dianne L. Keale of Anahola, Frances (Harry) Kamoku of Kapa‘a and Palma Kamala of Kapa‘a; grandchildren Taylor, Kilinoe, Conner Garcia of Lihu‘e; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 9-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, at the Kauai Veterans Center; services at 11 a.m.

Jennifer “Pua” Pualililehua Mersberg Manu died March 8, 2009, at age 40. Born March 29, 1968, in Lihu‘e, she was a sales associate with Pay Day Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by father Lawrence K. “Joe” Mersberg Sr., brothers Nathan “Kaiza” Mersberg and Lawrence “Duna” Mersberg Jr.
She is survived by mother Tamar “Kamala” Mersberg, husband Sosefo Manu of Anahola, sister Priscilla “Ui” (John) Mersberg-Kloes of Washington, and brother Arthur (Naomi) Mersberg of Anahola.
Visitation from 9-noon during a celebration of her life on Saturday, March 21, in Hanalei at Waipa, 5-785A Kuhio Highway; service at noon by Kahu Nathan Grosse of Kauai Baptist Temple.

Fredlynn Faye Hoapili died March 3, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 53. Born Sept. 16, 1955, in California, she was a bus driver for Akita Enterprises and employed by Kauai Palms.
She was preceded in death by father Frederico Naperan.
She is survived by mother Dolores Timbreza; stepfather William Timbreza; stepmother Dorthy Naperan; sons Joseph (Haunani) Hoapili Jr., John Hoapili, Johnson (Shirley) Hoapili, Kyle Hoapili; daughters Raylynn (John) Vistante, Kristie (Jeremy) Hoapili; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Duane Naparan and Fred (Jenica) Naparan, both of Washington; sisters Donna (Mike) Savage, Francine Naparan, Doreen (Gaylen) Kindle, Barbara (Chris) Nagama, all of Washington.
