PUHI — The Kaua‘i High School girls and the Island School boys earned victories at the Kaua‘i Community College tennis courts, Wednesday afternoon.
The team of Juli Blachowiak and Madison Duarte, playing in the No. 1 Girls Doubles, marked the only Island School win as Kaua‘i girls took the series, four matches to one.
According to Island School coach Ernie Blachowiak, the third set tie-breaker in the Boys No. 2 Doubles was pivotal as the team of Ryan Bender and Ryan Perez bettered the Kaua‘i team of Peter Nguyen and Lance Matsumoto, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4).
That win gave Island School boys the series, three matches to two over the Red Raiders.
Sarah Kukino returned to control the No. 1 Girls Singles series over Jessica Duarte, 6-0, 6-0. Shea Orial edged out Island School’s Meghan Perius, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the No. 2 Girls Singles.
The Kaua‘i team of Waters Riley and Christine Castillo took the No. 2 Girls Doubles over Katherine Hoban and Isabel Worley, 6-2, 6-3, and Raisa Carlos and Katie Johnson of Kaua‘i defeated the Island School team of Stephanie Steuri and Haley Uliana in the No. 3 Girls Doubles.
Juli Blachowiak and Madison Duarte took the No. 1 Girls Doubles over Jasmine Ikeda and Jenifer Grady, 6-2, 6-3.
Island School’s Sam Dunham took the Boys No. 1 Singles over Kaua‘i’s Ryan Bieker, 6-2, 6-1 and Jermy Randolph-Flagg of Island School earned the No. 2 Boys Singles over Mathew Kanna, 6-2, 6-3.
Chris Flynn and Lanning Henriques, playing the Boys No. 1 Doubles, defeated Logan Domingo and Hunter Coberly, 6-1, 6-3, and Michael Fujikawa and Beiker teamed for the Boys No. 3 Doubles to defeat the Island School team of Larry Miller and Dylan Morrison-Vogel, 6-1, 6-2 for the Kaua‘i boys’ wins.
The match was rescheduled from its original Saturday play date that was rained out.
With the results of Wednesday’s play, Kaua‘i High School hosts Waimea High School at the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts starting at noon, Saturday.
Island School will travel to the Kapa‘a High School courts starting at 10 a.m., Saturday.
