A Waimea High School band became the Kaua‘i representative to the state Band Champs competition during the island finals at the convention hall, Friday night.
Comprised of Waimea High School students, 2nd Nature topped a field of five bands to earn the right to advance to the Band Champ finale on O‘ahu, March 21, said Rob Deveraturda, public relations director of Harris PR.
Members of 2nd Nature include DJ Yaris on drums and vocals, Byron Hahn-Morin, backup vocals, Kahaku Bongolan on keyboard, Eric Bouldin, lead vocals, and Casey Palanas on bass.
The Band Champ finale will be taped and televised on KHON-TV, March 25, with the ability to have viewers cast their ballots for their favorite band during the telecast that starts at 9 p.m.
Semifinals for that finale are being held on the other Neighbor Islands with each island’s finalist advancing to the O‘ahu event.
The winner of Band Champ earns $5,000, a recording contract for a single, an opportunity to open for a Tom Moffatt concert and Mobi PCS phones plus one year of service.
Deveraturda said Band Champ is Hawai‘i’s first statewide band talent competition for youth 18 years old and younger.
