Hats off to Buddy Wilson and Pomai Kane for doing such a great job with the 21st Anniversary Law Enforcement Regatta.
It’s been a long time since Violet Carrillo was on the basketball courts here and she returned with the Federal Detention Center crew to lead the women’s races.
Just up the street, former Kaua‘i volleyball players Ashley Kawaihalau and Erin Garlie (she was supposed to come after work) are giving back by coaching one of the 12 Po‘okela girls teams that was part of the Power Tournament being coordinated by Kapa‘a at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
Kaulana Efhan was another Kapa‘a volleyball player giving back by being one of the site leaders and Tori Tuttle (she helps coach, too) had a “Maile” shirt on.
For most of the players, this was their first (Lana Vali’s mom said she was so excited she almost couldn’t sleep) tournament and they got help from the veteran players. Mark James traded his guitar for coaching to help his daughter.
More kudos to Billy Gibson, Chef Mark Oyama, Chef Martina Hilldorfer and Chef Jason Sunada (the last KCC Bake Sale is this Friday) for doing such a great job with the 23rd Annual American Culinary Federation Brunch.
Helen Cox did a great job filling the shoes of Peggy Cha as she greeted almost all of the diners coming through the line, and her husband John (he has a fancy last name “Latkiewicz,” so Helen says he just goes by “Cox”) was busy distributing fruit.
