PUHI — Nicole Noelani Kaui and Krystal Ijima were crowned Miss Garden Isle 2009 and Miss Kaua‘i 2009, respectively, Saturday night.
The pair topped a field of eight contestants in the scholarship pageant that unfolded before a large audience at the Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center.
En route to the crown of Miss Garden Isle 2009, Kaui was selected as the Congeniality Award recipient, and copped the swimsuit award.
Ijima, a graduate of Kaua‘i High School where she excelled in athletics, earned the talent award en route to her Miss Kaua‘i crown.
Kawahineha‘aheo Oliver, the first runner-up in the pageant, was the recipient of a special photogenic award as well as taking the spirit award.
Second runner up in the competition was Kirsten McCracken, a senior at Kapa‘a High School.
The eight contestants in this year’s pageant include Kaui, Ijima, Oliver, McCracken, Elizabeth Lani Figueroa, Kellene Chun, Mary Lindsey and Brittni Dilwith.
Both queens advance to state competition late this year.
