Congratulations to Moana DeSilva and Raquel Kaui for winning the TGI Souper Bowl in-house contest.
Congratulations, too, to Alyssa Medd who won the Kaua‘i island spelling bee Thursday night. JK said the bee will be aired Wednesday and Friday of this week, and kudos to Billi Smith (she’s at ‘Ele‘ele School, now) on doing a good job with emcee-ing the event.
Spelling bees seem to jog everyone’s memories as Alyssa’s mom Kim was a school champion back when she was in fifth grade and Ellen Edmands remembers “academic.” Danny Abadilla had his family at the event since daughter Natasha was one of the island champions, and the event is a good way to have a reunion with people like Kilauea School principal Fred Rose and Waimea Canyon Middle School principal Glenda Miyazaki.
Of course, Jan Tenbruggencate always does a good job as the pronouncer, and even suggested visiting the Lihu‘e Library book sale to someone who was looking for a dictionary.
Today is the day Mayor Bernard Carvalho catches The Kaua‘i Bus for work and it’s off to check with Chuck Brady, Jolene Ogle and the Marriott ‘ohana for groundhog job shadow day.
Happy Groundhog Day, Kaua‘i! Did that little guy see his shadow?
