LIHU‘E — The rumored sexual assault of a female guest at a Kaua‘i hotel last weekend has spurred an investigation by the Kaua‘i Police Department, but two resorts thought to be potential locations for the assault denied their involvement Friday.
KPD responded to a report of sexual assault at an Eastside hotel Sunday afternoon and an investigation is ongoing, county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.
KPD Assistant Chief Roy Asher confirmed that Friday, saying “We are investigating a reported sexual assault … at an east shore hotel.”
“While we follow up or confirm those leads, we can’t release anything else,” he said.
Asher declined to identify the hotel in question, but separate anonymous tips received by The Garden Island specified that the incident had taken place at either the Hilton Kaua‘i Beach Resort in Lihu‘e or ResortQuest Aloha Beach Hotel Kaua‘i in Kapa‘a.
Representatives of both hotels were reached by phone Friday and said no sexual assault had been reported at their hotels.
Sadie Riggan, assistant general manager for Aloha Beach, said there had been no reports or complaints from any guests and that she had reviewed security reports from the past week.
“It did not happen at this hotel,” she said.
An employee, who asked to remain anonymous because all official comments are supposed to come through Hilton’s corporate office, had a similar response when asked if the assault happened at that property.
“That is incorrect information,” the employee said. “There was no sexual assault at the Hilton Kaua‘i Beach Resort.”
See a future edition of The Garden Island for an update when such information becomes available.
