Valerie Saiki is excited about her mom, Toshiko, getting a big Concierge of the Year award at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club. And to top off that excitement in her family, her uncle who was pounding mochi in Wailua, will be celebrating his centennial birthday next month.
Valerie was out with Rebecca Smith, Jan Pascua, Coral Pascual, Ryan Caneda, Pua Kaohelauli‘i and Shantel Santiago with the American Lung Association people who distributed the quit smoking kits, Thursday.
Rebecca was working with Rhonda Liu and the Kaua‘i Community College people Thursday night at the College Awareness Month Fest (Jan was checking out the College Fair event as well) and was still able to get up early Friday for the distribution.
Speaking of KCC, chef Martina Hilldorfer is already gearing up for the college’s bake sale, which according to chef Jason Sunada, starts on Jan. 23 and runs for six Fridays at the cafeteria. The whole program ends with a fancy shindig featuring chef Martina’s students doing some high end goodies (last year’s event was a winner!).
But not everything is limited to the KCC campus as Conrad Nonaka was checking out the food court offerings at Costco.
Sisters Marlene Moises and Audrey Bonilla were meeting the rest of the ‘ohana for a big shopping thingie there, too.
