Larry Rivera is having his Coco Palms canoe redone and it should be ready for his big Valentine Day gig. Larry (he seems to be where all the prominent people hang out) and Gloria were checking out some post-holiday specials at Ace Hardware before his Aloha Friday night gig at Kukui Grove.
At Kukui Grove, Jeff Venzon (he had a birthday on New Year’s Eve?) is ready to start officiating at the KIF basketball games that start Tuesday. Jeff said he’s got Wednesday duty.
Stacie Serquina was cruising the mall and has her birthday coming up this week, you just need to figure out when it is. She’ll be heading to O‘ahu as one of the candidates for the Boys & Girls Club Leadership program this week as well.
Saturday was full-on with KIF events as coach Jon Kobayashi welcomed the swimmers to the Waimea pool while Sam Henriques had trainer duty at the Wailua River for paddling and Ross Shimabukuro was setting up Vidinha Stadium for the soccer matches.
It’s already a new year, and it’s nice to see all the people from last year — Joyce Evens had the shade duty with the timers at swimming, coach Ron Velasco and Gregg Gonsalves were enjoying the soccer matches along with some former KIF players like Emma Makepa Foley (she’s having a ball coaching, now) and Auika Muragen.
And of course, if it’s soccer, there has to be Tony and Jane Garma and their ‘ohana, Robert Ishikawa, and coach Karl Ubongen (Ashlyn had a hat trick).
