Hats off to Chris Faye and all the organizers of the Waimea Christmas Lights parade! There was just a lot of stuff to see, and to think that people put all of it together while having to deal with all the rain earlier in the week. Major Victor Aguilar and the Waimea Junior ROTC led off the unit with the color guard (the fire department comes through with the illumination of the flag!) and the major was busy distributing the battery lights so the cadets could be lit up. Beth Cuizon had part of the Waimea band’s new uniform and the Ayau family float was stunning … how they come up with the ideas is mind-boggling! Lyle Kobashigawa got to do his pilot thing again for Derek Kawakami. Tim Bynum and Lani Kawahara got to ride the mule with Chief Robert Westerman and the last anyone saw of Dickie Chang, he was carrying tripod for Bruce Smalling. Robert Higashi and his family enjoyed everything from his home lit up and the Ishihara Market crew was offering grilled steak for an unbelievable price. Cheyenne Duarte got a break from the Kaulupono food booth, and Dave Walker was balancing between ringing the Salvation Army bell at Big Save and trying to get the Rotary float finished. Kelvin Moniz didn’t have his Lions gear on. Instead he was working the Kaua‘i Food Bank with the Rotarians who had Liz Hahn, Dave and some of the other Rotarians working the crowd with fishnets. If that went well, Kelvin is hopeful it will put the food bank over its holiday drive goal.
OK, it’s getting down to the wire … only two days left before Christmas!
