Two Kaua‘i High School baseball players, Rysan Sakamoto and Kalen Wakumoto, are on the roster of the West O‘ahu Baseball select U18 team headed to the Las Vegas Showcase and Tournament this weekend. The 16-player West O‘ahu team roster has players from 10 different high schools on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i.
The skills showcase in front of college coaches and scouts will be held tomorrow morning at Arroyo Grande Baseball Field in Henderson. West O‘ahu will then play two games tomorrow, and at least two more games Sunday. If they advance to the championship game, they will play another game Sunday.
Other teams in the field are from Nevada and Texas. Over 30 college coaches and scouts from colleges in California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Texas are expected to attend.
In addition to the showcase and tournament games, the West O‘ahu team will be given a tour of the UNLV campus this morning, including its baseball facilities.
