The Kaua‘i Concert Association presents the Jupiter String Quartet as they open the classical season for KCA at 5 p.m., Sunday. KCA moved their Sunday concerts to an earlier time to make it more convenient for residents on North, South, and West shores to get home earlier.
The Jupiter String Quartet will perform Haydn’s Quartet in F Major, Op. 77, No. 2, Bartok’s Quartet No. 5, and Beethoven’s Quartet in A minor, Op. 132.
JSQ is regarded as “one of the finest young string quartets in the country,” according to the New York Sun. The quartet has won numerous awards including the 2007 Cleveland Quartet Award from Chamber Music America, and first prize in the 2004 Banff International String Quartet competition. The quartet has performed at such venues as New York’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington and is enthusiastically received at music festivals all over America.
JSQ will participate in an essential part of KCA’s mission by performing an educational services concert and “talk story” with the students of King Kaumualii School on Monday. JSQ places a strong emphasis on developing relationships with future classical music audiences through outreach work in the school systems.
The quartet was enrolled in the Professional String Quartet Training Program at the New England Conservatory of Music, earning Master of Music degrees in Chamber Music.
Tickets for the Jupiter String Quartet show are available on-line at KCA’s redesigned Web site, kauai-concert.org. Tickets are also available at Dr. Dings, Hanapepe; Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Co.; Magic Dragon, Princeville; Aloha-n-Paradise, Waimea; Kaua‘i Music and Sound in Kapa’a; Borders Books and Music; Kukui Grove Management Office, Lihu‘e; and Island Soap and Candle, Kilauea and Koloa.
