A rare opportunity for Kaua‘i residents, international and award-winning pianist, Damon Denton, will perform a piano concerto at 7 p.m. tonight at Church of the Pacific. The concert, described as a musical soiree, will feature French and Romantic period composers Chopin, Debussy, List, Rachmaninoff and others. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a Champagne reception.
Denton is a graduate of Juilliard School of Music in New York, where he studied with Russian virtuoso pianist Oxana Yablonskaya. He is a winner of many piano competition awards, including one of the top prizes at the Fourth International Piano Competition, held in Pretoria, South Africa, where he was the only American contestant to be passed on to the competition’s final round.
CNN called him, “One of the nation’s best pianists.”
Among Denton’s concerto performances of note are those with the National Symphony of South Africa, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic de Queretaro and the ARCO Chamber Orchestra. Denton has performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, Leighton House Museum in London, England and the State Theater in Pretoria, South Africa.
