KAHUKU, O‘ahu — The University of Hawai‘i men’s golf team concluded the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, yesterday, at the Turtle Bay Resort (Fazio) Golf Course. The Warriors finished in a three-way tie for eighth place, along with Oregon and Pepperdine, with a total score of 2-over par (285-296-285 — 877).
UH’s top finisher was senior Robert Berton, shooting rounds of 69, 74, and 67 for a 210 total. Berton moved up 11 places from the second round to tie for sixth place, his best finish of the season by far. Two shots back from Berton was freshman T.J. Kua, who led the tournament individually after the second round, and finished tied for 14th at 4-under par (70-67-75 — 212).
Also competing for the Warriors were freshman Jared Sawada (71-81-69 — 221/T56th), sophomore Kamden Brakel (75-79-74 — 228/T89th), and senior Cody Pewarchuk (77-76-75 — 228/T89th). Participating as individuals for UH were senior Chase Bingham (74-77-73 — 224/T74th), freshman Pono Calip (79-80-76 — 235/98th) and sophomore Daniel Soglanich (80-99-78 — 257/102nd).
Texas won the tournament’s team title with rounds of 280, 290, and 273 for an 843 total
(-21). San Diego State and UNLV, the second round co-leaders, finished second and third place respectively. Vaughn Snyder out of Ohio State won the individual title at 11-under par (67-71-67 — 205).
The Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational marked the end of the UH’s fall season. The Warriors will continue play in February at the UH-Hilo Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai‘i.
