The Professional Golf Association on Tuesday released the schedule for the 2009 season which will yet again start in Hawai‘i.
The Tour will once again be on Maui with the Mecedes-Benz Championship from Jan. 8 through 11 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Action will then switch to O‘ahu on Jan. 15 through 18 for the Sony Open at the Wai‘alae Country Club.
Issues surrounding the FedEx Cup have yet to be resolved. The PGA Tour Policy Board has yet to solidify the final dates for the TOUR Championship and the BMW Championship — whether to be played right one after another or if they are to be separated by one week.
There were few changes to the overall schedule. The most significant being the change from the Valero Texas Open being played in the fall to being played from May. 11 to 17. It will now take the FedEx Cup place previously held by the tournament held in Atlanta, which has been discontinued.
The only other change is the Buick Invitational and FBR Open switching weeks, with the FBR Open scheduled for Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 and the Buick Invitational being held the following week.
The Champions Tour will also again be in Hawai‘i, starting with the Wendy’s Champions Skins Game at the Ka‘anapali Golf Course followed by the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at the Hualalai Golf Course in Kaupulehu.
The PGA’s Grand Slam of Golf, which was formerly played at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Club, will still be played in Bermuda. The event moved to Bermuda with a two-year contract and it, as of last month, was renewed until 2010.
