Nancy Goodale
Nancy Sloggett Goodale, (Wilcox) kamaaina , philanthropist, and community volunteer, passed away on Kaua‘i Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. Born on Kaua‘i Feb. 12, 1929, she graduated from Punahou School and attended Pine Manor College in Massachusetts.
Survived by husband, Holbrook Goodale (married on June 25, 1948); four children, David Goodale (Patrice) of Kilauea, Katherine Richardson (Wayne) of Lihu‘e, Joan Evans (Randy) of Santa Barbara, and Dr. Richard Goodale (Karen) of Kilauea; seven grandchildren, Matthew Goodale, Wayne Richardson IV, Tony Evans, Juliet Evans, Katherine Richardson, Ian Goodale and Dylan Goodale; brother, Dick Sloggett (Loree); step-grandmother, Anna Slogget.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Sue Sloggett; sister, Sally Sloggett DeHarne; grandparents, Etta Wilcox and Digby Sloggett of Kaua‘i, Dr. Arthur and Edna Reynolds of Flint, Mich.
Nancy participated as a member, volunteer and/or served as an officer in the following Hawai‘i organizations: YWCA, Wilcox Hospital, Waioli and Nuhou Corp.(Grove Farm Homesteads), National Tropical Botanical Garden, Mabel Wilcox Foundation, Girl Scouts, Island School, Kauai PTA, Kaua‘i Museum, Kaua‘i Historical Society and the Mokihana Club.
Nancy had true sense of selfless service and real commitment to the community of Kaua‘i. Her leadership was quiet and steady following in the steps of her grandmother, Etta, and aunts, Mabel and Elsie Wilcox.
“She walked in grace and beauty and she was about the best thing that God ever created.”
Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 11, at Lihu‘e Cemetery. Aloha attire. No flowers. A gathering to celebrate the life of Nancy Goodale will follow the services at Grove Farm Museum.
Donations: Grove Farm Homestead (Waioli Corp.), YWCA or Wilcox Hospital (Wilcox Health Foundation).
Antonio Parinas
Antonio Parinas died on Nov. 5, 2008, at Lauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Born in Abra, Philipines she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Fernando Parinas.
She is survived by sons Donato (Marcy) of Kekaha, Puleriano (Connie) of Sacramento, Calif. and Nestor (Avelina) of ‘Ele‘ele; daughter Rose Perona of Chicago Ill.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 to 10 a.m. on Nov. 15, 2008, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Mass at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
