BOISE, Idaho — The University of Hawai‘i women’s soccer team earned its first WAC road win, beating Boise State 2-1 yesterday in Boise, Idaho. The win is the second straight victory for the Rainbow Wahine going into Sunday’s regular season finale.
The win improves UH to 7-6-4 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. With 10 points, the Rainbow Wahine currently sit in third place with one game left, at Idaho on Sunday. Boise State, who was tied with UH in third prior to the game, fell to 2-3-1 in conference and 9-7-2 overall.
Against the Broncos, UH got on the board first when Mari Punzal (Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i) scored her third goal of the season in the 12th minute. Punzal took a pass from Tehane Higa, beating Boise State goalkeeper Liz Ruiz.
Just after the break, Boise State tied the game in the 50th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out.
After playing the next 22 minutes tied, sophomore Chelsea Deptula scored the game-winning goal on a header off a pass from Nicole Mikula. Deptula’s goal came in the 72nd minute and was her second game-winning goal of the season.
Offensively, UH had 12 shots, with seven shots on goal.
Defensively Kori Lu recorded three saves and the defense held Boise State to four shots on goal.
The Rainbow Wahine conclude the regular season Sunday against Idaho in Moscow at 11 a.m. HT.
