Casting call for student actors
6 p.m., Wednesday, Lihu‘e Pono Players (formerly Message Theatre)

This is a peer education program where student actors present the plays to fellow students. Three short plays addressing body image, teen suicide, AIDS and other STDs will be produced and will tour area schools. There will be a partnership with organizations and counselors specializing in the issues covered in each play. They will work with the directors and performers to educate them and will be available for discussion with the audiences following each performance. Rehearsals begin after the winter break with a public performance at Kaua‘i Alliance for Perfoming Artists studio in February. During March the plays will be presented at the middle and high schools.
Students interested in being part of the program as an actor, assistant director or wanting to learn more about any of these issues are invited to a meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday at 4411E Kikowaena St., Lihu‘e. Refreshments provided. For more information, call Nellie at 212-4050.
