Carmelo Hernandez
Carmelo Dumayag Hernandez died Oct. 24, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. Born in the Phillipines on April 24, 2008, he was a retired field irrigator.
He is survived by wife Nerie Coloma Hernandez; son Eddie (Genta) Hernandez, daughters Marilyn (William) Carbonel, Cathy (Noel) Palacio, Noreen (Jacob) Gandeza, Carol (David) Ching; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sisters Victoria Ildefonso, Florentina (Rosenda) Ventura and Irene Malabed.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at Borthwick Memorial Chapel in Koloa and again from 8 to 9:45 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Immaculate Conception Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Lihue Cemetary.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary.
Shigemi Sakahashi
Shigemi “Stanley” Sakahashi of Hanapepe, Kaua‘i, died on Oct. 21, 2008, in Anahola at the age of 87. Born on Oct. 5, 1921, in Makaweli, he was the owner of Stan’s and Stan and Clayton’s.
He is survived by wife Miyoko; son Clayton Sakahashi (Caryn) of ‘Ele‘ele; daughters JoAnn Bergh (Larry) of Hanapepe and Lettie Matsuura (Bruce) of Kaneohe; sister Tsugi Azeka of ‘Ele‘ele, four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. with service to follow Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

August Moniz Jr.
August Moniz Jr. died Oct. 25, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 70. Born in Honolulu, on Jan. 4, 1938, he was a retired tour bus driver and lifelong musician.
He is survived by wife Jacquelyn Moniz of Anahola; daughters Tonita Manarsic of Chaska, Minnesota, Melonee (Willie) Duyanan of Hanama‘ulu; son August Moniz III of Honolulu; grandchildren Nicholas Davis, Brnadon Davis, Ashley Davis, all of Minnesota, Mandee Duyanen and Dathan Duyanen, both of California; one great-grandchild; numerous nephews, cousins and extended ‘ohana.
Services and scattering of ashes will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Antonio Torres Perez
Antonio Torres Perez of Kapa‘a, died Oct. 12, 2008, on Kaua‘i at the age of 43. Born on Aug. 8, 1965, in La Yesca, Navarit, Mexico, he was a Taper’s Union worker.
He is survived by father Adelaido Torres; brothers Manuel (Isabel Torres) Torres Perez, Juan Torres Perez, Enrique Torres Perez, Lalo Torres Perez; sisters Esperanza Torres Perez, Marciela Torres Perez, Obdulia Torres Perez and Leticia Torres Perez.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at Christ the King Church in Kahului, Maui. Burial will be held in Mexico at a later date.
