There are two ways to win in The Garden Island’s annual Football Frenzy and Col. Jerald G. Knudsen seems to know how to get it done.
Knudsen, an ROTC teacher out of Kalaheo, won last week’s Frenzy by beating the panel with 12 — his lone blip, the Denver vs. New England game — and two others who predicted the same amount. It was his tie-break score of 34 that was the closest to the Monday Night Football game without going over.
“I look at all the standings in the different leagues and watch the sports channels,” Knudsen said. “And then I using my handy dart board.”
Knudsen also plays at least two ballots a week. Playing multiple ballots not only increases his chance of winning the weekly prize, but has also benefited him when it came to getting on the panel. He won the weekly prize and the opportunity to be on the panel last year as well, but just not in the same week.
I slipped again last week, dropping to Ron Wiley by one game. Wiley finished 10-3 to go up 44-34. TGI Web master Richard Stein finished 7-6 and is at an even 39-39. Wiley and I are now at a one-point differential with my 9-4 finish and 45-35 record.
I plan on padding my lead my this weekend.
