Kauai Publishing Co. — and its various publications, including The Garden Island and kauaiworld.com — has been named a finalist in the running for Enterprise of the Year.
Each year Kauai Publishing’s parent company, Lee Enterprises, recognizes an outstanding performer in its family of publications that includes 53 daily newspapers, online operations and more than 300 non-daily publications in 23 states.
Mary Junck, chairman, president and chief executive officer for Lee, said the finalists for the company’s highest honor are: Agri-Media division, an online services subsidiary, and the newspaper-online operations in Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i; Auburn, N.Y.; and Lincoln, Neb.
“All have excelled in key measures of our business, and all drove exceptionally strong revenue or cash flow in a tough year by delivering outstanding service to customers and results to advertisers,” Junck said.
The winner of the competition will be named in early November.
“Over the last two years we have been reinventing ourselves to be more customer-driven and focused which allows us to provide better services and greatly improve our online product,” said Kauai Publishing Co. Publisher Mark Lewis. “The success could not have occurred without our dedicated employees and our loyal readers and advertisers.”
Accomplishments of Kauai Publishing cited in the nomination announcement include, “innovative sales and promotional programs, increased market share, circulation growth and a doubling of online revenue.”
“I am very proud of this company and its accomplishments over the last few years,” Lewis said. “It’s not only a great honor for the paper, but for the community as a whole.”
