Hats off to Beth Tokioka and the county Office of Economic Development for the first-ever Made on Kaua‘i trade show. Judging by the number of shoppers that peered into the window, it was bound to be a success. And, it was in the right venue because Dean Nakayama had his pots of coffee going for some post-show discussions.
Unfortunately, Carol didn’t make that event, but she was at the Matsuri Kaua‘i checking out all the goodies there. Congratulations to Pearl Shimizu and her hard-working crew for putting that event on. Jackie Kanna was busy filling in spots, taking pictures and doing all sorts of things that needed doing, but that’s what makes her great.
Wayne Miyata had his potter’s wheel going and Takeshi Fujita had a full table … as soon as one got through, another filled in. Steven Fujii had time to break away from the bonsai table and was pushing the hachimaki, although he didn’t have one.
Lisa Iida was doing duty with the Musubi Madness before reporting for duty at the KIF volleyball game, and Stacie Serquina even got bold enough to create a sports-themed musubi, chatting with Tsuka Murakami through the whole process.
If you want some political excitement, there’s the mayoral forum this evening at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center on Kapule Highway. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the action gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
