Carl H. Hamashige of Oma‘o died on Oct. 7, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Born on Oct. 10, 1919 in La‘ie, O‘ahu he was a retired welder.
He is survived by brothers Nobu Hamashige of Japan, Kintaro Hamashige of New York and Shinichi (Jane) Hamashige of Utah; sisters, Toshie (Bob) Shishido of Maui, Tatsuko Fujimoto of Kaua‘i and Tsutayo Ono of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Lempi Vilja
Lempi Pura Vilja of Kapa‘a died at her home on Oct. 9, 2008 at the age of 83. Born in Finland, she was a homemaker.
Survived by daughter Uisa Vandermeer (Dennis) of Kapa‘a; sons Jussi Vilja (Lynne Haas) of California and Pauli Vilja of Washington; three grandchildren; and sister Elvi Pasanen of Finland.
Private services will be held at a later date.
