Marian Shimono
Marian Yoshie Shimono of ‘Ele‘ele died Sept. 28, 2008, at home at the age of 88. Born Oct. 10, 1919, in Kaua‘i, she was a cook at Lihue Delicatessen.
She was preceded in death by husband Edward Yoshio Shimono.
She is survived by sons Harold (Debra) Shimono of ‘Ele‘ele, Dennis (Stephanie) Shimono of California and Steven (Ann) Shimono of California; daughter Kathleen (John) Warren of California; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters Hatsue Ahana of Lihu‘e, Katherine Sato of Lihu‘e and Yuriko (Masaichi) Ajimura of Hanapepe; sisters-in-law Sueyo Lorance, Hatsuyo (George) Ozaki and Yoshiko Moke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Kauai Soto Zen Temple in Hanapepe; service begins at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

George Koga
George Kunimasa Koga of Hanalei died Sept. 28, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 88.
Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Hulaia, he was a retired agent and taro farmer from Hanalei Taro.
He was preceded in death by parents Chotaro and Kurano Koga, brothers Walter and Albert, and sister Katherine.
He is survived by wife Doris Inouye Koga; sons Lincoln (Lorinda) Koga, Donald (Geraldine) Koga and Gary (Masako) Koga; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sisters Emma Miyabara and Annie Yoshimoto.
Family and friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Hanalei Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanalei Chinese Cemetery.

Betty Inouye
Betty Masako Inouye of Kalaheo died Sept. 26, 2008, at home at the age of 92.
Born Aug. 24, 1916, in Honomuu, Hawai‘i, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by son Gary Inouye of Kalaheo; daughters Eunice (David) Au of San Diego, Calif., Linda (Milford) Chang of Honolulu and Sandra (Stan) Erickson of Washington; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Tom (Dorothy) Fukunaga of Honolulu; and numerous nieces.
Funeral services are private.

Sutezo Mukai
Sutezo Mukai of Waimea died Sept. 28, 2008, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 98.
Born Aug. 25, 1910, in Waimea, he was a private contractor.
He is survived by daughter Elaine K. (Kiichi) Fujii of Waimea, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
The family requests no koden.

Mary Akaka
Mary Louise Jeffrey Akaka of Honolulu died Sept. 20, 2008, at her residence at the age of 85.
Born Jan. 6, 1923, in Denver, Colo., she was known as Mama Kahu serving as a helpmate, confidant and advisor throughout Kahu’s ministry.
She was preceded in death by husband Abraham Akaka.
She is survived by children Fenner Shupe of Honolulu, Pualani Akaka of Moloka‘i, Sally Truong of Honolulu, Sandy Akaka of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, and Jeffrey Akaka M.D. of Honolulu; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Kawaiahao Church, 957 Punchbowl Street.
Aloha attire is suggested. Private inurnment will be held.
