Maybe a Lihu‘e skateboard park is the answer
September 4, at about 6:30 p.m., my son called me at work to pick him up from skateboarding across from Kukui Grove Theatre.
As I approached the Kukui Grove offices there were four police cars surrounding my son with his group (total of five, 13- to 14-year-old boys). I planned to pass by pretending that I didn’t know anyone but my son was pointing at me and calling me to stop. One policeman had waved his hand, so I had to back up and get into the parking lot. I stopped my car and talked to the policeman who waved at me. He told me that the boys are being warned not to skateboard at Kukui Grove properties and if they are cited for the second time, consequences such as taking away skateboards will be done.
I observed that there were policemen talking to the group, one Kukui Grove security guard and four police cars parked around the corner of the office building. I left the policemen to do whatever they did and waited at the parking lot in front of Kauai Community Federal Credit Union. It took about 15 minutes and my son called me to pick him up.
My son claimed that the boys were told to skateboard at Po‘ipu or Kapa‘a. “They are killing us,” he said.
I can see the frustrations but what can I do? I am a working single mom.
Skateboarding is dangerous as well as other sports and activities. Here are some questions I have:
• Do we need four police cars to warn a group of five 13- to 14-year-old boys where Kukui Grove security is already involved?
• Who will provide transportation for these boys to go to Kapa‘a or Po‘ipu where skateboarding is allowed?
• Do we have a location where skateboarding is allowed in Lihu‘e?
• Do we need a skateboard park in Lihu‘e?
Just for the kids to play and not to get in trouble with the law, any suggestions?

Quit blaming Superferry
If people were aware that you could not ship fish via air than what makes them think the Superferry is any different? Those who got caught, what kind of penalty are they facing? (I hope it is a very stiff one). Also, some jail time should be added.
To solve this problem of people fishing, picking limo, etc., interisland we should be like Alaska (no one can fish, or net for king crab). Or each island should charge people a very very high fishing tag fee for a limited amount of fishes to be caught. Maybe a limit of four fishes of each kind. Also, opihi and limo can be bought and eaten only in restaurants of the island upon availability.
All plants and berries (such as mokihana and maili) should be incuded and cannot be picked and taken off island either when the ferry returns to Kaua‘i. The same should be true with plants on the other islands.
This unecessary picking, fishing and taking of island food sources can be easily controlled by limiting amounts and a fee for each island.
Quit expecting the Superferry to babysit the thieves and idiots who choose to hoard and steal island resources. Shame you who continue to put the blame on the Superferry.

Obama will be disarming
We are the world’s shining light of liberty for one reason: Our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment gives common men and women uncommon power to defend all freedoms guaranteed by our Bill of Rights.
But now, we face a titanic battle with Barack Obama who would use his victory on Nov. 4 to begin a systematic destruction of the Second Amendment.
But the fact is — as a state Senator in Illinois — he supported a proposal to shut down all gun stores within a 5-mile radius of any school and park — a proposal that, on a national scale, would shut down an estimated 90 percent of the gun stores in America.
The National Rifle Association provided the above and following information.
Barack Obama’s Ten Point Plan to “Change” The Second Amendment
1) Ban use of firearms for home defense.
2) Pass Federal laws eliminating your Right-To-Carry.
3) Ban the manufacture, sale, and possession of handguns.
4) Close down 90 percent of the gun shops in America.
5) Ban rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.
6) Increase federal taxes on guns and ammunition by 500 percent.
7) Restore voting rights for 5 million criminals including those who have been convicted of using a gun to commit a violent crime.
8) Expand the Clinton semi-automatic ban to include millions more firearms.
9) Mandate a government-issued license to purchase a firearm.
10) Appoint judges to the U.S. Supreme Court and Federal judiciary who share his views of the Second Amendment.

Fast times at Wilcox Hospital
I recently went through the same day surgery at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
There I enjoyed the “thrill” of the 50-something “colonoscopy.” I have heard the negatives of our hospital and I have first-hand experience at the positive things about our hospital.
The first thing that happens is I get a phone call explaining how everything works at same day surgery and what to expect at my appointment. From the minute I walked in the door and was greeted by the first person I saw, I could not have been more impressed with the people working there.
It was a nice sense of trust, because a bunch of these great people were my neighbors. This entire great staff (Dr. Keith included) works there as a well organized team for all of us when we need them the most.
To the second-to-none same-day surgery staff, you are all extreme topnotch professionals at what you do. Thank you so much for caring the way you all did for me and the way you all care for the rest of those here on Kaua‘i.
