Waimea Canyon Middle School opened its doors Aug. 28 for Back to School Night. Students and their families enjoyed a chili dinner and started organizing a Band Boosters group. They also learned about the school’s goals for student achievement, were invited to participate in school-family partnerships and then headed out to classrooms for team activities.
School principal, Mrs. Glenda Miyazaki spoke to families about how proud she is of the gains students have made on the Hawai‘i State Assessment. She recognized and encouraged the continued effort of teachers and families in seeing that students get the support they need to be successful learners.
The teachers of Team Kina’ole (motto: perfection), Hui Nalu (motto: ride the wave of excellence), and Kaizen (motto: continuous improvement) met with families to share their team vision and expectations. Families participated in fun team-building games that demonstrated how working together gets the job done.
Family and friends of Waimea Canyon Middle School are invited to attend another evening event, “Science is Fun” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteriaon on Oct. 1. Students will run stations where science concepts are demonstrated through fun hands-on activities.
