Cody Graham, born and raised on Kaua‘i, was hired by Bu-Tay Style to spearhead the development, marketing and sales of the clothing line.
That announcement was made yesterday by Bu-Tay Vodka in launching its apparel line, states a release from the Surfersvillage Web site.
“We felt Cody could take us to the next level, not only locally, but internationally,” said Mike Postil and Joe Sachen, owners of Bu-Tay Vodka, in the release.
Graham, who made a name for himself as a professional surfer, said he’s been surfing for Bu-Tay Vodka for some time.
“Wherever we go, whatever events we put on, everybody wants our clothes because the brand is sexy and cool,” Graham said. “So, we created Bu-Tay Style to stoke everybody out and cover by ‘bu-tay.’”
Bu-Tay recently launched its Web site and is offering its wares online. Its next line, driven largely by consumer input, includes an expanded higher-end bikini range.
“We have a lot of girls that want to wear our bikinis, but we’ve never had enough to fill the demand. They get mad at us. It’s funny,” Graham said.
He added that Postil and Sachen took care of him and made sure he was healthy over the year, and he is excited for the opportunity to return the favor.
Kaua‘i-born Graham is known to be a consummate competitor, fearless big-wave rider and standout performer at Pipeline on O‘ahu’s North Shore.
According to the release, his never-say-die attitude and unerring focus allowed him to transition from full-time surfing into an Internet technology career and work as a top-rated Professional Golfers Association caddy.
In 2006, Graham took a marketing role at a publicly traded apparel company where he rose to the company’s top marketing postion.
Following that, he recommitted himself to top-level surfing, re-entering the professional surfing ranks during the winter of 2006 at Pipeline.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to return the favor to Bu-Tay, putting my trade experience to grow the apparel side of their business,” Graham said. “When I’m not in the office, or on the road, the (O‘ahu) North Shore winter is approaching fast, so expect to see me pulling into some big barrels and taking a few on the head.”
