Kaipo Kealalio has been named the new athletic director for Island School. The rapidly growing private school located adjacent to the Kaua‘i Community College in Puhi has gone from offering select varsity and junior varsity sports to nearly equaling its fellow Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation schools in terms of number of teams.
Island School will be officially competing in girls varsity volleyball this year and will be having boys volleyball, boys and girls basketball and soccer as exhibition. Kealalio will oversee those sports as well as the regularly offered varsity sports: air riflery, cross country, track, golf, tennis, bowling and the various middle school intramural sports.
Kealalio has coached volleyball at his alma mater Kapa‘a High School and at Hofstra University, a private liberal arts college on Long Island, New York.
Prior to his stint at Hofstra, Kealalio was the executive director for the Boys Scouts Kauai district.
