Kaua‘i 58, Hilo 0 – Kaua‘i High School scored two touchdowns in less than a minute and kicker Trent Allianic hit 4-for-5 in extra points as the Red Raiders defeated the Vikings of Hilo High School 58-0, yesterday at Vidinha Stadium.
Kaua‘i’s Dayne Murata scored on a 45-yard punt return for the first touchdown of the night at 8:52 in the first quarter. With 40 seconds past on the clock, starting quarterback Trey Shimabukuru connected with Gage Gusman for 4-yard TD.
By the final minute of the first, Cameran Largusa pulled off an 58-yard interception return for a TD bringing Kaua‘i a 35-0 lead.
Paleku Yasay scored both of Kaua‘i’s second-quarter touchdowns — his first, a handoff from Bradson Hiranaka for a 1-yard, and his a 19-yard catch and run.
Hilo made back-to-back big plays in the second quarter. Semisi Tokolahi sacked Hiranaka for a loss of 11 yards and Scotty Wong came up with an interception.
Closing out the half, Trent Allianic made a 44-yard field goal and Kaua‘i built a 51-0 lead.
Yasay then scored Kaua‘i’s only second-half touchdown with 8:43 left in the game with a pass from Allianic.
Overall, Kaua‘i finished with 152 yards passing and 127 running.
