Solomon Fu
Solomon K. Fu Sr. of Kekaha died April 16, 2008, in Waimea at the age of 71. Born Aug. 10, 1936, in Hanalei, he was a self-employed wood carver.
He was preceded in death by wife Vernica Kalani Fu, daughter Stella Ortiz, son Hilarrion Kalani, mother Mary Makue Fu and sister Agnes Fuchigama.
He is survived by sons David H. (Malia) Fu, Solomon K. Fu, Samuel K. (Tanya) Fu, James H. Kalani, Leonard Kalani, Mathew Z. Kalani, Anthony Kalani, Solomon Fu Kalani, Ben Kalani Pa‘aluhi, Adrian Kalani, Hermin Kalani, Sammie Kalani, Eddie H. Kalani, Mano Kalani, Solomen Kalani, Samuel H. Kalani, Raymond (Perlita) Kalani, Victor K. Kalani, David D. Kalani and Pumai Kuhio Kaliloa; daughters Healani (Mark) Fu of Honolulu, Haunani Fu, Leiolani (Jake) Velasco, Ida (Stanley) Miguel, Angela Kalani, Jasmine Kalani, Jaime (Elmo) Tafoya, Rebbeca Kalani, Heraldine Kalani, Loke Kalani, Bernice Kalani and Sweetheart Kalani; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; father Charles K.C. Fu Sr.; brothers Charles Fu Jr. of Waimea, Douglas Fu of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, and Calvin Fu of Hanapepe; sisters Lydia (Lionel) Kaohi of ‘Ele‘ele and Thelma (Damascio Jr.) Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Salt Pond Beach Park. Inurnment to follow at Kealia cemetery.
David Conrad
David Conrad of Lihu‘e died Aug. 2, 2008, at Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Ky., at the age of 53. Born March 31, 1955, in Kentucky, he was a chorus and piano teacher at Kaua‘i High School.
He is survived by parents Louis and Geneva Conrad, and brothers Paul Conrad and Monte Conrad.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church with a reception to follow.
Clyde Vegas
Clyde R. Vegas of Las Vegas, Nev., died Aug. 9, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev., at the age of 58. Born Dec. 31, 1949, in O‘ahu, he was a grant writer.
He is survived by wife Pattie Vegas, sons Clyde (Lyndell) Vegas and Chad Vegas, daughter Charla (Joseph) Apana and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the International Church of Las Vegas located at 8100 Westcliff Drive, Las Vegas, Nev. Monetary donations which can be submitted through the Web site are appreciated in lieu of flower arrangements.
Miriam Kapahu
Miriam Momi Kapahu of Kekaha died Aug. 17, 2008, at home at the age of 85. Born May 25, 1923, in Waimea, she was a retired nurse with Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by husband Ashford Kala Kapahu; sons William “Billy Boy” Kapahu and Ashford “Bully Boy” Kapahu; daughters Rebecca K. Kapahu and Laverne Puanani Montalvo; sister Pearl “Big Auntie” Gomez; brothers Billy, Jimmy, Kaipo, Kila, Ohu, Sonny, Liko and Vernard Hookano.
She is survived by son Howard (Pat) Naleimaile of Waimea; daughters Mona (Bob) McCullough of California, Helene (Tommy) Vierra of Koloa and Wanda (Damien) Freitas of Hanapepe; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service to follow. Casual attire is suggested and flowers will be accepted.

Leonardo Cabatan
Leonardo R. Cabatan of ‘Ele‘ele died Aug. 17, 2008, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 66. Born Jan. 5, 1942, in Agno, Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a drip operator with McBryde Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by parents Benjamin and Simeona Cabatan.
He is survived by wife Prima Cabatan; sons Joey and Jesse Cabatan both of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother Nestor Cabatan of Puhi; sisters Norma (Claro) Reposar of Hanapepe, Emelda (Efren) Gray of Puhi, Puring (Justiniano) Abaya, Lucerna (Fernando) Nino both of Philippines and Trifina Cabatan; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service at 7 p.m.; friends may also visit from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Holy Cross Catholic Church; Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Albert Tsuchiya
Albert S. “Bugs” Tsuchiya of Kapa‘a died Aug. 13, 2008, at his residence at the age of 66. Born Feb. 18, 1942, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired mechanic.
He was preceded in death by parents Akira and Kayo Tsuchiya, and sister Emily (Kiyoshi) Ueda of Waimea.
He is survived by brother Robert Tsuchiya of Los Angeles, Calif.; and sisters Eleanor (Harry) Sasaki of Lihu‘e, Helen (Megumu) Hamamura of Kapa‘a, Elsie (Gordon) Koigawachi of Kapa‘a and Gladys (Herbert) Yamashiro of Honolulu.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, at Kapaa Hongwanji Mission; service at 10 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
