KOLOA — A traffic accident that occurred yesterday morning at the junction of Kaumuali‘i Highway and Maluhia Road resulted in a traffic jam, but no one was seriously injured, according to a written statement from county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
Two juveniles involved in the accident were taken to Wilcox Hospital and were treated for minor injuries, Daubert said. They were released yesterday.
According to a police report, a truck was turning left onto Maluhia Road from the turn lane of Kaumuali‘i Highway at around 6:20 a.m. when it collided with a van traveling east on Kaumuali‘i Highway.
The van spun out and came to a stop facing southwest within the eastbound lane of Kaumuali‘i Highway, while the truck ended up on the median facing southeast, Daubert said.
The operator of the van was not injured, but his two juvenile passengers sustained minor injuries. They were taken to Wilcox via ambulance, Daubert said. The driver of the pick-up truck was uninjured.
Traffic in the area was redirected for about 1 1/2 hours, Daubert said. Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.
