Happy retirement to Rita DeSilva! For those who want to know, she was the “mother” of “The Happy Camper” way back when, and if you want the real story, you’ll just have to ask her. Hats off to Tepairu Manea

Hats off to Tepairu Manea and his ‘ohana for hosting another great heiva. For those who missed Wallis Punua, he has a weekly show at the Kaua‘i Marriott on Mondays now and I’m sure several of the performers at the heiva are from that show. Another great treat (Anolani Higashi had good pronto pups at the food booth) was listening (the halau went back already) to Kimo and Ka‘iulani who will be performing Saturday at the Kaua‘i Museum from 11 a.m. If you didn’t hear them yet, this is your last chance.
Mike Teruya and Steve Read were going full speed with their Canon gear, and Mario Perez had his Canon XSi working to get images of the competition … of course, Kenny Ishii had a line coming out of Ono Family Restaurant and Jerry Kaneholani was busy with his coconut leaves so couldn’t help him.
Tammy Pu‘u is getting nervous since Sunday is the last Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association rodeo for this year, and it’s free. Tammy said Krystin Vasconcelles (she won the Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo Barrels event) will be heading to college right after that, so check her out one more time.
Now it’s time to check out Corey Morishita and the Kaua‘i Challenge. This year, they play games at the new Island School gym so that should be exciting.
