The Mililani All-Stars advanced in the Protect Our Nation’s Youth West Zone Regional tournament with an 8-3 win over Victoria yesterday.
Taylor Tokunaga, pitching opposite catcher Dallas Correa of Hanapepe threw a 4-hitter while Mililani bats exploded for a dozen hits in the win.
Jake Baptista led the Mililani bats with a perfect 3-3 showing including a triple and 3 RBIs. Soobin Kang (2-4) had a double and an RBI followed by Lawrence Paas (2-3) finishing with 2 RBIs.
Shansten Shibao (1-3) had an RBI and Travis Shaw was 2-3.
With the win, the Mililani All Stars face the winner of the Sacramento-Victoria game starting at 1 p.m.
Kirk Correa, Dallas’ father who is with the team in California, said if Mililani wins today’s encounter, the team advances to the finals.
He added that Kaua‘i is familiar with Tokunaga as his younger brother Tanner was a member of the Waipio team which beat Kaimuki 4-3 for the Little League Majors state title, recently in Kapa‘a.
