‘ELE‘ELE — East Kaua‘i defeated Lihu‘e 24-13 in the much anticipated matchup for the Kaua‘i Senior Softball League’s championship.
East Kaua‘i started off with four runs in the first inning and Lihu‘e then matched that in the bottom. In the second and third innings, East Kaua‘i scored seven runs, unmatched by the defending champions.
Trying to hold onto its lead, East Kaua‘i scored five more runs in the fourth, but Lihu‘e answered that with five of their own. In the fifth, East Kaua‘i scored four runs, and Lihu‘e three. Both teams were dormant in the sixth.
Then East Kaua‘i added three more runs to its commanding lead in the seventh to solidify the championship.
Leading hitters for East Kaua‘i were Joshua Huddy who finished 4-for-4, Ned Nightowl who also went 4-for-4, Alex Youn who was 4-for-5 and Damien Victorino who finished 3-for-4.
For Lihu‘e, Ron Alfonso and Bernard Mahuiki finished 3-for-5.
Both teams will be competing in this weekend’s 33rd Annual Hawai‘i State Senior Softball Tournament at Hanapepe Stadium.
