PRINCEVILLE — The trio of Rory Rayno, Keith Yamamoto and Dana Palama posted a best ball score of 62 to win the local PGA McGladrey Team Championship qualifier on Saturday at the Princeville’s Prince Golf Course.
Rayno, Yamamoto and Palama beat out seven other teams vying for a chance to advance to the sectional tournament on O‘ahu on Aug. 10 at the Turtle Bay Golf Course.
The winner of that tournament will go on to compete in the national championship in October at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
The PGA’s McGladrey Team Championship is an amateur tournament in its second year. PGA-sponsored, the championship will feature teams of amateur men and women from all over the country and one team of pros — LPGA star Natalie Gulbis, President’s and Ryder’s Cup team member Chris DiMarco and last year’s Master’s champion Zach Johnson.
So far in Hawai‘i, eight of the qualifiers have already been played. The next local qualifying event on Kaua‘i will be on July 12 at the Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club.

At last year’s national championship, the Aloha Section PGA team from the Makena Golf Club of professional Kirk Nelson and amateurs Mike Morris, Jay Wisthoff and Rick Smith finished tied for 33rd, earning$2,400.
