Joe and Paulette Grace had the entire ‘ohana out to prepare and serve the roast pork plate during the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative annual membership meeting and celebration, Saturday.
Among those helping was Queen of the Kalaheo Steakhouse Jaime Otto, who was scooping rice into compostable paper bowls. Jonelle Tafiti said her family was almost all there, including daughters Deidre and Deanna who helped prepare roughly 1,800 hot dogs; one daughter was playing softball on the Mainland.
Dennis Esaki was busy helping the Sons of Hawai‘i, who were going almost nonstop flipping burgers. Lester Calipjo came from the Kukui Grove event Friday to help Bobby Ayonon serve up the grilled burgers. The Sons of Hawai‘i and Kaua‘i Harley-Davidson host the second Operation Military Appreciation Saturday.
Mary Williamson was there with information on the American Cancer Society and said it was hectic during the early hours of the event. She’s already looking ahead to October when she’ll be working during all of that month’s weekends.
Juan Lorenzo was chaperoning the young ‘uns and got to photograph them with the big trucks, and Ed Nakaya was busy getting members registered.
Edie Ignacio and Oscar Portugal were just two of the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce people who ended up collecting a bunch of books to be donated to libraries in the Philippines.
