The Clyde Kaluahine Big Toe shave ice was just the ticket while waiting on the awards for the Kaua‘i Musuem Lei Contest. Kaua‘i Mayor Bryan Baptiste got a lift to the event from Laurie Yoshida, and Dickie Chang and Bruce Smalling had no shortage of material to film.
Hats off to Noelani Pomroy who coordinated the event and topped it off by winning four of the specialty awards as well. Chris Faye was busy with her camera and Linda Shimoda was able to greet almost everyone who came. Great job to all.
Unfortunately, coach Lori Parraga and her paddlers disappeared too soon. But it’s all good since Diane Nitta was making a walking trip to the post office and Katie Beer was doing some errands after the Zonta Club meeting and trying to make the lei viewing before everything was auctioned off.
Tim Bynum was so impressed, he even made a phone call to Nathan Eagle to remind him to come check out the lei.
Kudos, too, to Rhonda Liu and her Student2Student helpers Erin Adamic, Jenny Espina (Raven Wood remembers her from high school), Sheryll Yotsuda (congratulations on being the KCC Student Helper of the Year) and Seluvaia Taulanga on doing a great job with the Taste of College. If you didn’t go, you missed Frances Dinan’s juggling act.
OK, ‘nuff said … it’s another full weekend plate. Happy birthday to Raven Wood who is a May Day baby!
