Caroline K. Hoopii
Caroline K. Hoopii of Kekaha passed away at her home on Feb. 16, 2008, at the age of 72. Born on June 12 1935, in Hana, she was a tour guide with Grayline Kauai.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Moses Paio, and a sister, Katherine Achuara.
She is survived by her husband Alberto “Sonny” Hoopii Sr.; sons Duke (Rene) Hoopii of Maui and Alberto Hoopii Jr. of Kekaha; daughters Lani (Kim) Stone of Belfair, Wash., Mamo Shimatsu of Kekaha, Camille (David) Hesapene of Hanapepe and Norma Hoopii of Waimea; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Solomon (Kathleen) Paio Jr. of Pahoa, Hawai‘i, Russell (Tonya) Paio of Kona, Hawai‘i, Melvin (Myra) Paio of Waimea, Hawai‘i, George Paio and Paul Kealoha Jr., of Hilo; sisters Pauline Gouveia of Ocean View, Hawai‘i, and Lucy Ordenstein of Honolulu; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; sister-in-law Mary Paio of Waimea, Hawai‘i.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha. Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire is suggested.

Rodetta K.T. Siliado of Hanapepe died at her home Feb. 17, 2008, at the age of 54. Born on O‘ahu on July 15, 1953, she was a financial expert with Peyton’s Plumbing.
She is survived by her husband Peyton; sons Reyton Siliado of Japan, Peyton D. Siliado II of Kekaha, and Winston “Lokahi” Siliado of Hanapepe; daughters Pamela Siliado of Hanapepe and Erica Hernandez of ‘Ele‘ele; seven grandchildren; brothers George Tai of Wai‘anae, O‘ahu, Alfred Tai and Clifford Tai, both of California; sister Rowena Tai of Wai‘anae, O‘ahu; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel. Service will be at 10 a.m. Aloha attire is suggested.

Iris M. Hernandez of Lawa‘i died Feb. 20, 2008, at North Shore Long Island University Hospital in New York, at the age of 56. She was born Iris M. Chong in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in death by son Theodore A. “Teddy” Daligdig IV.
She is survived by husband Angel L. Hernandez; mother Margaret Duncan; sister Sandra Kaui; brothers Lloyd, Walter and Alvin Chong; Tracy and Terry (Rowena) Daligdig; step-daughters Natasha (Daniel) Freitas and Nalinda Hernandez; step-son Austin Hernandez; caretakers Miriam and Fidel; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, companions.
Private services will be held. Family and friends welcome for the spreading of the ashes at 11 a.m. in Nawiliwili Harbor at the jetty end of the sea wall.

Jeannette Shirley Souza of Kapa‘a died Feb. 18, 2008, at Garden Isle Health Care, at the age of 67. Born in Lihu‘e she was employed as a housekeeper with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital and Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by five children Daniel (Tammy) Souza of Wailua Homesteads, Jimmy Souza of Arizona, Bobby Souza and Dorothy Souza of Kapa‘a, John Souza Jr. of Wailua Homesteads; sister Eleanor (Melvin) Wilson of Wailua Homesteads; brother John Larry (Yvonne) Teves of Kapahi; sister-in-law Peggy Teves; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, March 3 from 3 p.m. at Kapaa Missionary Church with services beginning at 4 p.m.

Dawn Elaine Kaona of Lihu‘e died Feb. 20, 2008, at her home at the age of 48. Born Aug. 4, 1959, in California, she was a clerk at Sears.
She is survived by son James Henry “Kimo” Kaona of Anahola; daughter Joanne Leilani Kaona of Anahola; sister Donna Spitzer of California; brother Dean Van Kirk of Las Vegas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Wed. Feb. 27 at the Wa‘ioli Church in Hanalei by the Reverend Soto. Scattering ceremony will be held privately with the family.

Anastacia Damaso Garma of Kalaheo died Feb. 11, 2008, at St. Francis West at the age of 92. Born Dec. 21, 1915, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by sons Mert (Leonida) Garma and Hilario (Victoria) Garma; daughters Gloria (Joe) Fiesta, Lillian (Wayne) Padua and Tessie (Cesar) Arucan; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at the Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arsenia Guerrero Butac of Hanama‘ulu passed away on Feb. 14, 2008, at Jeckson Hospital, Tarlac, Philippines, at the age of 59. Born on April 19, 1948, in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac, Philippines, she was a nurses aide with Wilcox Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Romy A. Butac Sr.; sons Romy Jr. (Velma) Butac, Kevin Butac and Jason Butac, all of Hanama‘ulu; grandchildren Jonathan-Trey Butac, Chason Butac, Chathan Butac, Jorryn Butac, Dreyke Butac and Damien Butac, all of Hanamaulu; brother Donaery Sr. (Nelda) Guerrero of Hanama‘ulu; sisters Carmen (Doming) Casino and Angelina (Marlo) Merano, both of Hanama‘ulu; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her late great-grandparents Francis and Kapeka Chandler of Wainiha and great-grandmother Elizabeth Ross Samuelsen.
She is survived by her mother Nicole Vasques, of Lihu‘e; brother Ryder Phoenix KapunakeakahewaiLa’iku Boyer of Lihu‘e; grandmother Irene Mascarenas of Kalaheo; great-grandfather Peter Samuelsen and step great-grandmother Marilyn Moyer, of California; great uncles Joseph Ross, and Charles Ross and wife; father Zion Harada of Wainiha; grandmother Bethan (Robert) Baptista of South America; grandfather, Ray Harada Sr., of Wainiha; numerous great-aunts and uncles, grand-aunts and uncles, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Manuel Bukoski of Lawa‘i died on Feb. 23, 2008, at his home at the age of 81. Born Feb. 1, 1927, in Koloa, he was a retired truck driver.
He is survived by wife Margaret V. Bukoski of Lawa‘i; son Michael (Erilinda) Bukoski of Lawa‘i; daughter Loretta (Jim) Bonilla of Idaho; Frederick (Helen) Bukoski of Kalaheo; sister Pauline Silva of Kalaheo; grandchildren Claressa (Frederick) Casticimo of Lawa‘i, Kristen (Blaine) Kaneholani of Lawa‘i, Steven “Kimo” (Jennifer) Bonilla of Idaho, Brandy (Chris) Lammey of Idaho; great-grandchildren Erick, Kolby and Avery Casticimo, Micah Bukoski, Landen Kaneholani and Philip Bonilla; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Roman Duenas Cruz of Kekaha died Feb. 23, 2008, at the age of 67. He was born on April 17, 1940, in Guam.
He is survived by his wife Lola Cruz of Kekaha; son Roman Cruz Jr. of Kekaha; daughters Yvonne Carter of California, Yvette Cruz of California and Yves Cruz of California; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Ignacio (Maria) Cruz of Guam, Antonio (Eloise) Cruz of Guam, Vicente Cruz of California and Jesus (Marian) Cruz of California; sisters Licia (Jesus) Salas of Guam, Bernadita Quitugua of California, Lagrimas (Pedro) Cruz of Guam, Olivia (David) Tenorio of California and Maria (Jesus) Lizama of Saipan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
