Caridad Ballesteros Cadiente
Caridad Ballesteros Cadiente of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 28, 2008, at the age of 72. She was born in Bacarra City, Ilocos Notre, the Philippines, on Aug. 23, 1935. She was a dedicated homemaker, taking care of her many children and grandchildren.
She is survived by sons Andres (Eden) Cadiente of Hanama‘ulu, Corazon (Elsa) Cadiente of Koloa, Fortunato (Aida) Cadiente of Lawa‘i, Federico Cadiente Jr. of Kapa‘a, Warlito Cadiente of Puhi, Robert (Lydia) Cadiente of Lihu‘e and Dennis (Aileen) Cadiente of Kilauea; daughters Erlinda (Prisco) Ancheta of Hanama‘ulu, Gorgonia (Rodger) Barr of Connecticut and Merlina (Manny) Catbagan of Kapa‘a; 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 1, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and mass at 10 a.m. by Father Bill Shannon. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Wilfredo A. Nebre Sr.
Wilfredo A. Nebre Sr. of Lihu‘e died in Honolulu on Jan. 31, 2008, at the age of 64.
He was born in San Manuel, Pagasinan, Philippines, on Oct. 12, 1943. He was a truck driver for McBryde Sugar Co.
He is survived by his wife Bella; sons Wilfredo (Cheryl) Nebre Jr. of Honolulu, Alexander Nebre of Honolulu, Jonathan (Kathy) Nebre of Honolulu, William (Crystal) Nebre of Kaua‘i, Joseph Nebre of Kaua‘i; daughters Amy (Carlan) Maglinti of Kaua‘i and Jocelyn Nebre of California; brother Alfredo (Evelyn) Nebre Jr. of Kaua‘i; sisters Sandi (Val) Inanod of Kauai, Loreen (Ronald) Caberto of Kaua‘i and Didi (Gary) Chock of Kaua‘i; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Lourdes Aquino Balmores
Lourdes Aquino Balmores of Koloa died on Feb. 5, 2008, at her home in Koloa at the age of 87. Born on May 7, 1920, in the Philippines, she was a custodian at Kalaheo and ‘Ele ‘ele school. She was also a cottage supervisor and cook at Hale ‘Opio Kauai formerly located at Loran Station in Po‘ipu.
She is survived by children Bernard (Gay) Balmores, Rodrego “Baye” Balmores, Theresita “Tessie” Kinnaman, Craig (Linda) Balmores, Irma (Clint) Hinchcliff, Abraham “Abe” (Shelagh) Balmores, Arthur “Atta” Balmores, Anita (Stewart) Yoneji, Yolanda (Mitchell) Demas, Lydia (Aaron) Konno, Adelia (Richard) Fuller, Mario Balmores, Melinda (Thomas) Yomen; brothers Primitivo and Antonio Aquino of the Philippines; sisters Caroline Mendoza of California, Lenora Aquino of Lihu‘e; 36 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa where memorial services will be celebrated at 3 p.m.

Yoshitaka Makishi
Yoshitaka Makishi of ‘Ele ‘ele passed away on Feb. 3, 2008, at his home at the age of 88. Born on Oct. 14, 1919, in Makaweli, he was a haul cane truck driver, tractor operator and later field supervisor with McBryde Sugar Company.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Makishi; son Milton Makishi of Honolulu; daughters Marlene Makishi of ‘Ele ‘ele, Leilani (Michael) Makishi-Au of Kurtistown, Hawai‘i, Debra (Harold) Shimono of ‘Ele ‘ele; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Take (Shizuko) Makishi of Pennsylvania and Yoshihiko (Jean) Makishi of Culver City, Calif.; sisters Kazuyo Tsubakihara of Torrance, Calif., Yoneko (Gene) Miyashiro of Honolulu, Setsuko (Glen) Arakaki of Honolulu, Marie (Steven) Takano of Gardena, Calif., and Gladys Kaneshiro of Honolulu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in ‘Ele ‘ele. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire is suggested. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Keith Kaoru Furugen of Kapa‘a passed away at Straub Clinic and Hospital on Feb. 12, 2008, at the age of 55. Born on Feb. 19, 1955, in Lihu‘e, he was a stevedore with Young Brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tadashi and Tomoko Furugen.
He is survived by brothers Mark (Kanani) Furugen, Colin (Yvonne) Furugen and Kip (Leilani) Furugen; sister Kathi (Mike) Nohara; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kapa‘a Ward. Service begins at 11 a.m. Burial at a later date. Casual/Aloha attire is suggested. The family requests that flowers and wreaths be omitted.

Caroline K. Hoopii of Kekaha passed away at her home on Feb. 16, 2008, at the age of 72. Born on June 12 1935, in Hana, she was a tour guide with Grayline Kauai.
She was preceded in death by brother Moses Paio and sister Katherine Achuara.
She is survived by her husband Alberto “Sonny” Hoopii Sr.; sons Duke (Rene) Hoopii of Maui and Alberto Hoopii Jr. of Kekaha; daughters Lani (Kim) Stone of Belfair, Wash., Mamo Shimatsu of Kekaha, Camille (David) Hesapene of Hanapepe and Norma Hoopii of Waimea; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Solomon (Kathleen) Paio Jr. of Pahoa, Hawai‘i; Russell (Tonya) Paio of Kona, Hawai‘i; Melvin (Myra) Paio of Waimea, Hawai‘i; George Paio and Paul Kealoha Jr., of Hilo; sisters Pauline Gouveia of Ocean View, Hawai‘i, and Lucy Ordenstein of Honolulu; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; sister-in-law, Mary Paio of Waimea, Hawai‘i.
