Harriet Ahana Albao
Harriet Ahana Albao of Lihu‘e died Feb. 11, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 92. Born May 15, 1915, in Huleia, she was an editor for The Garden Island newspaper, headed the Selective Service and retired from the Social Security Administration.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Welcome Alba Albao, and her son, Alan Willey Albao.
She is survived by sons Timothy (Liberta) Albao and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Albao; daughter Candace (Peter) Yanagihara; grandchildren Alane (Warren) Aihara, Alan (Tina) Albao Jr., Alynda (Donavan) Travaso, Azlinn (Kyle) Gregg, Lilia (Douglas) Chong, Timothy (Kylene) Albao Jr., Ryan Yangihara, Jenel (Jason) Okamoto and Lichelle Albao; great-grandchildren Alia Aihara, Arin Aihara, Aukai Albao, Dallas Albao, Ikaika Albao, Travis Travaso, Taylor Travaso, Douglas, Cherie, Kaylie, Codie, Nikkie, Rockie Chong and Jovie Okamoto; daughter-in-law Karin Albao; brother Ah Sau Ahana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday Feb. 18 at Kapa‘a All Saints Church. Memorial services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. and inurnment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family requests that flowers be omitted. Casual attire is suggested.

Laurie Ann Aloha Loo
Laurie Ann Aloha Loo was blessed to Joseph and Audrey Loo on Sept. 21, 1953, as their first-born daughter. She was later joined by her devoted sister, Iris J. Loo Spanski, her loyal brothers, John Loo, James Loo and Damian Loo.
Her spirit of adventure became her career as an independent travel and tour director and consultant. After traveling around the world three times, living on the east and west coasts of the States, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, she made the “best and most beautiful place on Earth” home: Kaua‘i.
Her blessings in life are her wonderful sons Joseph Kainoa Hansen-Loo and Kyler Kamakanikai Hansen-Loo. Besides her Mom, siblings and sons, she truly loved her nieces and nephews and in-laws. Her love and devotion for Uncle Al, Aunty Bea and cousin Rob filled her heart to the brim.
Her zest for life included photography, her horses, being a certified rescue diver, dancing and exploring offbeat locations with the many, many friends she collected throughout the world.
She had a passion for volunteering, fund raising and organizing events. Her gift of aloha, her never giving up attitude and positive outlook on life inspired those around her, especially her numerous friends she brought into her family.
Her love and devotion for her friends and theirs reciprocated, explained what her life was all about.
Laurie joined her father Joe, cousins Sam and Ilima and “Tip” on Jan. 14, 2008. She lived a good life, No regrets and finally in Peace.
The Celebration of Laurie Loo’s Life will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Borthwick in Koloa.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Cancer Society, Kauai or Kauai Hospice.
Paul Ganansa Silva Sr.
Paul Ganansa Silva Sr. of Lawa‘i passed away at home on Feb. 10, 2008, at the age of 80. Born in Kalaheo, he was a Building Material Supervisor with AMFAC.
He was preceded in death by his son Paul Ganansa Silva Jr.
He is survived by his wife Helen Silva; son Randal Ganansa Silva of Lawa‘i; daughter Jane F. Johnson of Union City, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Teresa Jerves of Hayward, Calif.; daughter-in-law Francine Silva of Pahoa, Hawai‘i; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion. Services will be celebrated at 3 p.m.

Emily A. Smith
Emily A. Smith of Kapa‘a died Feb. 15, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 98. Born Sept. 2, 1909, in Honolulu, she was the owner of Smith’s Motor Boat Service Inc.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter J. Smith, son Malcom Smith and her granddaughter Shelly Pihanakalani.
She is survived by children Charlotte Kaui, Pelma Larsen, Walter J. “Frackles” (Mokihana) Smith Jr. and Grace Apana; hanai daughter Joy Moss; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 19 at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested.
