The Kalaheo Kaneshiro Farmers drove in nine runs in the sixth inning, and combined with six runs in the first inning, went on to shut out the Waimea Tsunami, 19-0.
Justin Ganaden went 2-for-2 with two runs driven in as the Hanapepe Rivermen came up with a 12-2 win on 11 hits over the Lihu‘e Builders in the nightcap of the Americans of Japanese Ancestry baseball, Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.
Gerren Itamura, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple, paced the Kalaheo bats with three runs batted in as the Kaneshiro Farmers finished with 22 hits, capitalizing on Waimea pitchers Steven Werner and Liko Pereira who gave up 21 hits in six and two-thirds innings.
Following Itamura, Kalaheo got 3 RBI each from Kainoa Santos (2-6) and Kaleo Saiki (1-1). Kaina McCallum (4-6), Keola McCallum (3-4), Troy Kaneshiro (2-3), and Duane Miyasato (1-2) each drove in two RBI.
Zoom Bukoski (2-3), David Bukoski (2-5) and Kendrick Caspillo (1-2) each drove in one run.
Waimea, who could not push any runs across the plate, got hits from Kaimana Shigematsu, Brycen Nakashima and Pereira.
Saiki picked up the win for Kalaheo on the mound, working through five innings and giving up two hits while striking out seven batters and walking one. Miyasato closed with a hit given up while striking out one and walking none.
Darren Sakai hit into a triple and Mikey Cardinez finished with a single and a double, but Lihu‘e could only push one run across the plate on Sakai’s bang in its loss to the Rivermen.
Joining Ganaden, the Rivermen could only hit into singles as Wendall Nonaka went 3-4, but had no RBI.
Vince Nitta (1-2) and Davin Yamase (1-3) each tallied two RBI to join Ganaden. Kelly Robinson (2-4) and Mike Yaris (1-4) each finished with an RBI.
Yaris pitched for six innings to earn the win for Hanapepe on the hill, giving up five hits while striking out five and walking three. Troy Yamase finished with an inning of work, not allowing a hit, but giving up a walk.
Stanley Morinaka Jr. gave up seven hits in three innings of work for Lihu‘e on the hill. He also struck out three while walking five before being relieved by Isea Horner who went four innings, giving up four hits, striking out one and walking two.
