That led the Lihu‘e Kamakaze to a comeback as the redshirts outgunned Island Heat 5-3 and 8-7 in the second and third periods to take the lead en route to its 39-25 victory in Game 3 of the county’s 13 and Under Girls Basketball League.
Lucas and Agu went on to finish with 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Kamakaze win Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Kawehi Louis-Diamond finished with 7 points garnished with a lot of hustle and muscle in the paint. Pili Chung added 4 points and a pair from Justice Brown-Kimura rounded out the win.
Jennifer Grady took the brunt of the defensive efforts from the Kamakaze and finished with a game-high 15 points. She was followed by Taylor Garcia’s 6-point contribution with pairs from Makana Fujimoto and Shay Orial rounded out the Heat’s effort.
Earlier in the night, Mahea Hanie-Grace fired 16 points and Lauren Claypoole added a dozen marks as the Gee’s Angels ran over Wailua 60-17 to open the evening’s action.
Angel guard Kristle Henry finished with 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring for the blueshirts.
Kekai Gonsalves finished with 10 points and Katelina Fifita added 5 points, including one from beyond 3-pointland, to lead the Wailua effort. Cortney Higa rounded out the scoring with a pair.
Vakeesha Lagazo paced the Kaulupono Girls’ 25-8 victory over the Kilauea Hui with 5 points before being sidelined with an injury.
However, the Kaulupono bench showed its depth by coming up with four girls netting 4 points each.
Cheyenne Duarte paced the quartet, coming off the bench in the second period to finish the game. Ashlyn Bueno, Krista Kali, adding a lot of muscle in the Kaulupono inside game, and Nicole Palacio, whose brother plays in the boys’ counterpart team, all netted 4 points.
Pairs from Rea Plotado and Nicolei Banasihan rounded out the Kaulupono win.
Kanoe Kuwabara had a goal in each half to finish with 4 points to lead the Hui with Paulette Guerro’s hustle yielding a final-period bucket and a pair from Carla Tuzon rounding out the effort.
The girls move to the Kilauea Neighborhood Center for Saturday games as the Kamakaze take on Wailua starting at 10 a.m. Island Heat tangle with the Kilauea Hui starting at 11 a.m.
Wailua and Kaulupono face off starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kilauea center. Kamakaze will match up against Gee’s Angels in the 7 p.m. contest.
